The Mommy Diaries
Oh how we forget and how we definitely don't make the most of our free time before our precious little bundle arrives. Although we would never change a thing for the world, there are always things we remember doing when our time was our own that are not quite the same after the birth of our beautiful babies.
10 Absolute necessities to be done before bub arrives!
What is the thing you most remember enjoying while you were pregnant?
10 Absolute necessities to be done before bub arrives!
- Go on, go to the movies. I can count on one hand how many times I have entered a movie theatre since bub number 1 arrived, oh and of course most of them are kids movies.
- Have a leg wax, bikini wax.... oh what the hell have an everything wax Get your nails done, a pedicure, a massage.... in fact go live in the salon for a day.
- Hint hint hint to someone close to you to throw you a baby shower. Make the most of the attention. The new addition will be getting ALL the attention when he or she arrives.
- Have some girlie nights out and in. Have as many baby friendly nibbles and mocktails as you like, after all, this is the only time in your life you don't have to suck your tummy in.
- And more importantly have some couple time with your man. Try to take a weekend away together, eating (not drinking of course) and relaxing in "peace and quiet" this time is more valuable than you realise.
- Sleep in............need i say more.
- Sleep in some more. No just kidding, but heh leave your PJ's and slippers on and "sloth" around the house for a while.
- Read a book or if you cant manage that a magazine....... from cover to cover.
- Drink a hot cup of tea....... this may be your last.
- Do exactly what you want. Remember this is a special, special time and for at least these few months you definitely come first.
What is the thing you most remember enjoying while you were pregnant?

Three of the best!
It's a kid thing!
There is no doubt, Kids love cooking. My little munchkins ask me everyday to cook something or other. Cupcakes, muffins, cakes, pies, biscuits even juice, slushies, sorbet and smoothies anything colourful and sweet really, i have a pretty bad sweet tooth myself so i cant comment (huhum).
Its pretty easy to cook something yummy nowadays, all the frosting's and decorations are so readily available even in the local supermarket there is an endless display of delicious extras.
So with Easter cakes and chocolates still on our minds (yummy) this weeks Three of the best is looking at ways of "playing with food"
PS I have four of the best this time....... enjoy!

Music to their ears.
Hi Gorgeous girls,
How many of you use driving time to listen to your favourite music??
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love music and how "unique" my taste in music is, (ha ha that was very positive wording for strange...). Anyway when I am in the car I listen to all my faves which change so so often, therefore my children listen to my faves also. The other day we were driving along and
I notice in my mirror my six year old princess and three year old WonderBoy are singing along, Uh Oh the song, not very age appropriate is quickly flicked to the next channel to cries of dismay from the back seat, " we love this song mum!"
Mmmmm what do we do here?? we can listen to some repetitive kiddy Cd's over and over until we get a nervous twitch (don't pretend you don't know what i mean....) or we could listen to "my music" which is either too old for them or too old fashioned ( its a bit sad making your kids listen to 70s music in 2011), but in saying that I am all for a wide variety in life, don't you think??
So i needed to come up with some music we could all listen to which at least would be fun as well as age appropriate. So i found Justine Clarke Great Big World and her numerous other Cd's, Wow I
strongly recommend her music they are fresh, fun, age appropriate and most importantly we can get from A to B without becoming totally insane. Tell me what you think? or please please give me more ideas for a peaceful journey in the car!

Have an OutDoorsy Weekend
Happy Easter weekend everybody,
I hope you are all doing something fun this long (long) weekend? Hopefully the weather is nice where ever you are. We went for a gorgeous walk yesterday around a local lake, People of every kind were there enjoying the day. I looked around as i was walking,(my munchkins took their bikes) and took in how many different types of exercise there was happening around me.
People were dog walking, jogging, sprinting, walking, riding, scooting, doing aerobics, Tai chi, flying kites, chasing their kids(probably unintentionally) playing in the park, rollerskating, skateboarding etc etc.....
Exercise is done in so many ways without even realising, i must say that i don't exercise on purpose (sad i know) but i think i get plenty chasing my kids around all day, but when i saw all the "accidental" exercise happening, i decided that getting out doors and having some fun is definitely the best sort there is.
So what are you up to this weekend??
We will be having a lavish Easter lunch at my parents, and probably will eat way too much chocolate, but that's the fun of Easter isn't it? so have a safe and fun one, and eat as much chocolate as you like!

Three of the best
Reusable lunch bags
I don't know if everyone feels the same as me? but i feel incredibly guilty every time i pack Imogen's lunchbox. I overuse plastic sandwich bags immensely. One for the sandwich, one for the apple (because miss fussbag wont eat the Peel), one for a snack/cracker.......the list goes on its, got to be at least 5 or six a day by the time I have done Glenn's lunch and Samuel's for buzy kidz.
A friend of mine told me to look up Haggus and Stookles when i was looking for a practical lunch box this year and ! found this amazing site with these fabulous little reusable sandwich wraps (just make sure they don't get thrown away). I thought I would share with you three of the best ways to avoid plastic sandwich bags where possible.

Secret Sausage Rolls
Yesterday in the playground we all got talking about groceries, and how much fruit and veg we go through in one week. One of the other mums gave me a recipe for sausage rolls, that sounded so good i went straight to the shops to buy the ingredients (they must have sounded good!)
i went home and cooked them and i must say they turned out fabulous (thanks Jodie) although i think the recipe is almost foolproof.
You will need:
500 grams of pork and veal mince
1/2 a large sweet potato
1/2 a large zucchini
1 small onion
1/2 cup of wheatgerm (instead of breadcrumbs, high in iron and protein
4 sheets of puff pastry
milk to wash
lay out your sheets of puff pastry to soften Grate sweet potato and zucchini and chop onion finely (preferably in a magi mix) mix with mince(go on get your hands into it) and add the wheatgerm. Roll into sausage like shape and dividing the pastry into two, place sausage meat along the centre and wash the edges of the pastry with milk for sticking, then roll up and join at the centre, cut up into generous chunks and wash over with milk to brown.
cook in the oven for about 20 minutes and..........
yum! the kids cant get enough of them. and all the veges are hidden (Ha Ha), that's the secret!
And while on the note of healthy food, my little Imogen just came back from Granny's with popcorn, a banana milk shake and told me she had been eating chocolate all morning (good one mum) her mood is baaaddddddd now, so not to self: no junk food in these holidays (yeah right).

Never rush it!
I was struggling my way around woolies this morning in an attempt to get some grocery shopping done before the start of school holidays. My trolley had a bung wheel (don't they always) and my three year old BoyWonder Samuel was sitting amongst all the food singing at the top of his voice. I was in a deep discussion with him on why i wasn't buying custard when from behind a lady said to me with a sad smile, "I miss having little helpers around to shop with". Me thinking she was being sarcastic laughed in an agreeing manner, then realising my mistake said "Well i definitely buy alot less when he is taking up all the space".
I thought about her comment and how quick time does fly by, before we know it they don't even want to come shopping with us, or even talk to us for that matter. Lets be honest here, we all get stressed out trying to shop with little ones, but this is life and we need to make our days run as smoothly as possible, especially in an age of busy "run around mums".
My biggest pet hate is when i ask someone how their day has been and their reply is "good now its nearly over" or workers that spend all week waiting for the weekend. I can say in all honesty that i have never wished my days away or would want to. I cherish every moment i have with my family, every day brings something new even a new idea (such as this blog).
i feel we need to try to get through our days with as little pressure and stress as we can take on and to enjoy any peaceful moments without feeling the need to rush onto the next thing. Before we know it we will be the lady in the shop wishing we had never felt agitated with our children because they have been and gone.

Why you are Australian
Always a truly spectacular sight even when you live here, the sunset still amazes me everyday, and rarely is there a cloud in the sky. The sound of water trickling in the pond and crickets and sand gropers chirping, in the fresh night air..... amazing.
One of my oldest friends gave me a book for my birthday "Why are you Australian a letter to my children" by Nikki Gemell The funny thing is, i am not even Australian (by birth anyway) i came when i was 14, but now would see it no other way and its funny how i read this book as though i was seeing it through her eyes, every word rang true andrealisedwould never want to live anywhere but this rugged sun burned countryGive it a read you will love it!

Last day of school tomorrow yay! i have no idea why i am so tired, after all i am just the "mum" and i do only have two children a six year old "princess" named Imogen (who cant understand why she isn't invited to Will and Kate's wedding! after all she told me indignantly this morning " i AM a princess" and a three year old BoyWonder named Samuel. Back to school Hols.......... What will we do?? i am determined not to squash too much into this precious two weeks, just as i was determined not too buy too many Easter Eggs this year (yeah right). I walked into the shop this morning and was greeted by the most monstrous amount of eggs i have ever seen, and they are not just eggs anymore (or rabbits) they are wombats, kangaroos and bilbys?? anyway, needless to say i had BoyWonder with me so this soon became an unfathomable task (what was i thinking he he) so we left with nothing but a bag of sour coke bottles yum! i think i am going to look at some other options which i will share with you!
